My Colombian Death By Matthew Thompson
I picked up this book at Dymocks because Matt happened to be my tutor at uni last semester. Matt is a journalist and author. Let me give you a little bit of a gist of the story.
Matt, has a job as a journalist at a major daily - The Sydney Morning Herald - has a loving wife and new born baby girl *aw*... decides to chuck this all in and go to Colombia, one of the worlds most dangerous countries, in search of his 'mojo' he lost during his stint at the Herald. In other words he was bored with life in Sydney so impulsively decided to take a trip to Colombia.
Seems kinda crazy and its all true. This is a often personal non-fiction bio that vividly describes one mans journey in a country riddled with violence, drugs and poverty.
At the Herald Matt was told that his stories 'had too much colour'. This book definitely takes from all colours of the rainbow. It makes you appreciate the safety and security of living in a developed country but it also wakes up a little part of you that wants to dive into the dangerous side of life if only to test your own stamina.
